Motorcycle Winter Tires

You never know what you have until you don't have it. I never really gave any thought to how much people use and rely on their vehicles, until now. I am in between trucks right now and it's a bit of a bummer not having my own transportation. I am basically trapped at home for the majority of my time off.

However, I am putting a bit of a positive spin on this. It is a very humbling experience having to get a ride or, if I'm lucky, borrow a vehicle from someone. It makes me appreciate what I have and to take care of what I have a little better, particularly my vehicles. It also gives me more time to keep up with my forms and reps during the holiday break.

Too bad this didn't happen in the summer when I could just ride my motorbike. Guess I need to get some winter tires for it and learn to ride in the ice and snow!

Where am I? What am I doing?

Lately I have been getting overwhelmed by my tasks at work. I keep forgetting to keep my mind focused on what I am doing presently, staying in the moment. I get into what seems like a perpetual motion machine of thought with no end in sight. My mind races and I continually make mistakes.

Every once in a while I stop myself and remember to remain calm and think things through as they come up through the day. Easier said than done when my foreman is putting me on the spot and asking about seven different things at once. Hehe...

Luckily the holidays are coming and I will get some time off to train, re-cooperate and concentrate on the up-coming year of the sheep. Then I can return to work in January with a fresh mind and a cool composure. Have a Merry Christmas everyone! See you in the new year!

The Beginning of an Incredible Journey

Every decision made affects your life differently. Choosing to practice Kung Fu has been one of the best decisions of my life. For years I kept putting it aside, using excuses like, "I'm too busy.", "I don't know where to start." or "I work out of town all the time." and just leaving it at that.

Then one day, my sister asked if I would join her in a Tai Chi class at Silent River. I was hesitant, but seeing as I did not work out of town anymore and it was only once a week, not taking too much time out of my "busy" schedule, I agreed to go with her. At first it seemed awkward to me. My stiff and rigid body was uncomfortable with the smooth, flowing motions in the form. However, eventually it became much more natural.

After several months, I was encouraged by several of my fellow classmates to enroll in the Kung Fu classes. Again I hesitated, " I need to go two nights during the week? That's crazy!". More excuses. With enough encouragement and coaxing I jumped in with both feet and didn't look back. It seemed I did have enough time to commit.

I am progressing well so far. Participating in the Boot Camp, the Form Seminar and the Tiger Challenge greatly benefited my training and I am glad I went. Now I have been accepted into the I Ho Chuan team for the year of the sheep. I am excited yet nervous. I find the biggest challenge for me is going to be the blogging. I am not used to keeping a journal, let alone having it public. This is just another obstacle I will have to overcome.

I appreciate the opportunity to be part of this team and I'll do my best.
